SMITH SANG WITH BREATHTAKING, TEAR-JERKING EMPATHY
California-born mezzo soprano Devony Smith is currently based in Frankfurt am Main, and is known for her command of a wide variety of operatic and concert repertoire. This last season held a variety of role debuts for Devony: In Fall 2021, she sang the role of the Rooster in a new orchestral arrangement of The Cunning Little Vixen conducted by Fabrice Bollon, which will premiere on the SWR Stuttgart radio and will be released on CD under the Naxos label.
Spring 2022, Devony sang her debut as Angelina in Rossini's La Cenerentola with Opera Modesto, Sesto in Clemenza di Tito with Bronx Opera, Maddalena in Rigoletto with Boheme Jersey Opera, and Dido in Dido and Aeneas at Teatro Commuale di Giuseppe Manini di Narni. In concert, Devony premiered both “Little River Songs” by Grammy-award winning composer Jennifer Higdon with Lyric Fest Philadelphia and “finish what i haven't started” by Eve Beglarian with Brooklyn Art Song Society.
